John R. B. "Jack" Long

John R. B. ("Jack") Long was born in Augusta, Georgia where he has lived almost entirely since birth. 

Jack attended high school in Augusta, and has studied abroad at Cambridge College in England as well as The American School in Switzerland.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia in 2003.  He thereafter attended Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2006. 

After graduating law school, Jack became a member of both the Georgia and South Carolina Bars. He is licensed to practice in all Georgia State and Superior Courts, the Court of Appeals of Georgia and the Georgia Supreme Court, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia and the United States Supreme Court. Since 2007, Jack has also been licensed to practice in all courts in South Carolina, as well as in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

Jack has a general litigation practice, with a focus in general civil litigation and family law/domestic relations cases.  His practice also includes a significant appellate practice, having successfully represented many clients on appeal and generated several reported decisions from the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.  He also has considerable experience in transactional matters including residential and commercial real estate closings, domestication of foreign judgments, and the preparation of will and trust documents.  Jack regularly volunteers civil and domestic pro bono service to client referrals from the Georgia Legal Services Program, as well as accepts appointment of indigent misdemeanor and felony criminal matters in Federal District Court and in South Carolina state courts.

Over the past several years, Jack has actively served the Young Lawyers of Augusta and the State Bar of Georgia. Since 2010, Jack has served as a Southern District Representative for the State Bar of Georgia Young Lawyers Division. Jack graduated from the Young Lawyers Division’s Leadership Academy in 2010 and became a Director of the YLD in 2011. He was appointed chair of the YLD’s Rules and Bylaws Committee and currently serves in that capacity. He is currently a candidate for YLD Secretary.  Jack continues to be an active member of the YLD’s Intrastate Moot Court committee. Since 2009 he has been on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers of Augusta, and currently serves as its Secretary.
 
Outside of work Jack enjoys spending time with his wife Paige, friends, and family, as well as traveling, golf, aviation, and automobile collecting.  He currently serves as a Deacon at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, and regularly volunteers for Historic Augusta, Inc. and the Augusta Chapter of the American Red Cross, where he serves on the Executive Committee of the Augusta Leadership Society.
